Signage - Palacio Velázquez
The paintings of Carrie Moyer, Peter Pery and Tomory Dodge, contemporary abstract painters, were to be exhibited in the Velázquez Palace, an exhibition space located in El Retiro Park, Madrid. The architecture of the building is quite particular, as it was built in a baroque style but later the interior was painted completely white. The project consisted of the organisation of the paintings that were to be displayed and the creation of the exhibition’s signage. This space belongs to the Reina Sofia Museum, so it is important that the signage maintains the consistency within their brand - because of this, the first step before starting to sketch was to analyse the characteristics of Reina Sofia’s graphics. The pictograms created are situated on an orthogonal grid and contained within a circle. The lines are clear and geometric. Their width is constant and their vertices are bevelled. The application of these characteristics in all the signs makes the whole set look coherent and unified. The main goal was to create useful and clear signs in order to lead visitors through the exhibition.
